2008 Summary

We start every season at BK Racing with a primary goal that we want to accomplish that year. Early on it was doing well at the Runoffs then it was developing the GTA concept with the hopes of having our cars recognized as a separate SARRC class, so when that came to fruition for the 2006 season the "Easy button" was contending for the SARRC Championship. After we accomplished that in 206 & 2007, getting a Three-Peat was to obvious primary goal for 2008.

The season started well with a first and second each at CMP and Nashville respectively, which had us in the lead for SARRC points at that time. Our SARRC season ended prematurely at Road Atlanta, however, when an incident at the green flag knocked us out of the running for a third consecutive championship. It WAS encouraging, however, that we had thirteen (13) GTA-eligible cars running that weekend!

Even though we had qualified for the SARRC Invitational Challenge we skipped that weekend to concentrate on bringing the best GTA car I'd ever driven to the season-ending American Road Race of Champions Presented by Grassroots Motorsports at Road Atlanta. We ran a Time Trails event at Roebling Road the weekend prior to the ARRC by GRM as shake-down run and were encouraged by turning laps within .3 of the GTA track record, but unfortunately we failed to discover that the alternator was not working. Even though we ran well enough to qualify fifth in a record-setting twenty-one (21!!!) car GTA field - the largest field EVER for a GTA race - the battery faded during the race and we held on for an eleventh place finish.

So while we fell short of our goals it was still a successful season on many fronts, biggest of which was the continued growth of the GTA class. That growth is partly due to the inclusion of Late Model stock cars in the rules, but also because GTA is the best bang for the buck in racing!

Definitely looking forward to 2009...
